Friendz dears...
I love this Kalyani varnam very much.
It just lingers always in my heart day and night.
This 65th melakartha raga created wonders in Karnatic, Hindusthani and Film music too.
While I was producing 'Swarasamaram' in DDK Hyd. I heard this varnam with a small pathabhedam as 'vanalaksha, viraha morvane' too but that varnam round was excellent. My music guru Sri K.Kondappa (prasishya of Jamalappa of proddatur, he was prasishya of mysore Choudappa) used to tell that 'varnams are the 'BASEMENT' for karnatak music and if any body learns varnams in all the three 'KALAMS' (three speeds), that person will do his best in music and there will not be going back to him.'
My master used to teach us (me and my co-singer and friend Muttulakshmi) in the 3 KALAS.
Raga Kalyani, being a prathi madhyama raga was, is and will be favourite for all the singers and composers too for ever.
Hameer Kalyani, saaranga and Mohana kalyani- r also very dear to mee, being the janya ragas of Kalyani.
'Nidhi chalaa sukhama' 'ye thavunara' 'vasudevayani' (compositions of Thyagaraja) r the compositions very dear to mee.
'zindagee bhar naheen' from 'Barsaat ki raat' and 'Ansoo bharee hain' from Parvarish' r some famous Hindi film songs.
'Joru meedunnavu tummeda' a lovely song in Telugu from film 'Sivaranjani' is very popular now a days also.
'Yeppativale kadura' sung by Smt Vanijairam for film 'Abhimanavanthulu' is also set in this Raga.
So ..friendz, pl. enjoy the above songs with a new look at them...
